Compendium
Catechism of the Catholic Church

Compendium

The Compendium is a faithful and sure synthesis of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It contains, in concise form, all the essential and fundamental elements of the Church’s faith, thus constituting, as my Predecessor John Paul II had wished a kind of vademecum which allows believers and non-believers alike to behold the entire panorama of the Catholic faith. I entrust this Compendium above all to the entire Church and in particular to every Christian in order that it may awaken in the Church of the third millennium renewed zeal for evangelisation and education in the faith, which ought to characterise every community in the Church and every Christian believer, regardless of age or nationality.
Pope Benedict XVI

I want every Catholic to have this catechism.
Cardinal Cormac Murphy O’Connor

The Compendium is a new question-and-answer style catechism for the modern reader. Prepared by a commission headed by Cardinal Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI), it presents a true summary of the teachings contained in the much larger Catechism of the Catholic Church (1992). Its handy, portable size, and durable hardback binding make it ideally suited for personal reference, classroom use, or even as a gift for adults coming into the Church and young people preparing for Confirmation.

Features:

  • 598 Questions & Answers
  • Fully reference to the larger Catechism of the Catholic Church
  • 14 colour illustrations
  • Selection of prayers in English and Latin
  • Introduction by Pope Benedict XVI

Catholic Social Teaching

Catholic Social Teaching
A Way In
by Stratford Caldecott

'The Common Good', 'option for the poor', 'subsidiarity' - concepts like these have become part of the currency of Catholic teaching, but what do they mean? What are their foundation in scripture and tradition which make them distinctively Catholic?

This booklet examines key aspects of human social relations such as the family, the state and civil society, the world of work and justice. It explains in clear language how a conscience informed by divine revelation brings out the true human vocation to love of God and neighbour. The author highlights the particular contribution oF Pope John Paul II.

In an increasingly materialist, individualist and utilitarian world this booklet opens up a rich heritage of teaching and reflection.

Thinking of becoming a Catholic?

Thinking of becoming a Catholic?
by Fr Michael Seed

In this reassuringly frank and friendly booklet, Fr Seed addresses the difficult questions that arise from those first intuitive promptings towards the Catholic Church. Everyone makes their own particular journey, but some key signposts and landmarks are certain. With humour and compassion, Fr Seed convincingly identifies the true destination: freedom in truth and completeness; - more an experience of enriching enlightenment of all that has gone before, rather than of abandoning it.

Fr Michael Seed, SA, is a Franciscan Friar of Atonement, and has ministered at Westminster Cathedral, London since 1985, and since 1998 in ecumenism under both Cardinal Hume and Cardinal Murphy-O'Connor.
